Lactating Dairy Cow Pinkeye Prevention Protocol

Below is the suggested protocol for preventing pinkeye in lactating dairy cows.

Step 1: Pinkeye Vaccination
Administer a broad spectrum vaccine to protect against the bacteria that causes pinkeye. The PILIGUARD® PINKEYE TRIVIEW® vaccine stimulates protective antibodies in the tears of the eye that cross react with 103 different strains of Moraxella bovis bacteria and reduce the incidence of pinkeye disease. A single 2mL subcutaneous injection along the neck is all that is required.

Step 2: Fly Control on Animal
Apply ULTRA BOSS® POUR-ON at the rate of 3 mL per 100 pounds of body weight along the back and down the face. Monitor and reapply ULTRA BOSS® POUR-ON as necessary.

Step 3: Fly Control on Premises

  • Mix GRENADE® ER Insecticide at a rate of 6 mL/ gallon of water (see label for complete directions)
  • Apply mixture evenly to all premise surfaces and allow to dry before animals enter the area
  • See label for additional dosing
  • Monitor and reapply GRENADE® ER to premise areas as necessary.

Step 4: Fly Breeding Prevention

  • Manure, moist hay, spilled feed and any other plant matter should be removed weekly
  • Check frequently for a buildup of these materials

Always read and follow label directions.
