Herd Health Management Protocols

Pinkeye can have a devastating effect on herd health - and your operation's bottom line. Ensuring proper herd health management protocols are in place is key to preventing pinkeye. This means addressing all the causes - the bacteria that cause pinkeye (Moraxella bovis) and face flies that cause irritation and spread disease. When it comes to fly control on the dairy or calf raising facilities, sanitation (waste management) is the key. Eliminate organic debris such as wet, rotting hay, straw, feed, silage and manure. Fortunately, there are fly control tools to help break the cycle of flies that spread pinkeye-causing bacteria and irritate animals. Premise sprays and pour-on insecticides should be used in a systematic approach to knock down flies during the growing cycle.
